Arsenal need a left-back
Arsenal have a fair bit of work to do in the upcoming window if they are going to once again challenge for a European place again. One area they need to target is left-back cover for Kieran Tierney.
The Scotsman is one of the Gunners’ top stars on his day, but he obviously cannot play every single game for Arteta and co., with his injury issues this season highlighting the need for reinforcements in that spot.
Cedric has done a decent job covering for the former Celtic standout on occasion, but the Portuguese could of course be improved upon
Bukayo Saka is also capable of filling in at left-back and did a decent job vs West Brom over the weekend.
However, if Arteta is forced to play Saka at left-back, that, of course, diminishes the Gunners’ attacking threat.
So, though Arsenal probably don’t need to spend that much on a left-back in the summer, signing one does seem quite essential.
Arsenal linked with Ryan Bertrand
And now, as mentioned above, Arsenal have been linked with a left-back on Tuesday.
The Gunners were said to be showing an interest in Southampton’s Ryan Bertrand in the latest January window.
The 31-year-old has a plethora of Premier League experience and is still a regular feature for Southampton, with who he has made 29 league appearances so far this term.
However, Bertrand is out of contract with the Saints this summer, meaning he would be available on a free transfer.
Now, according to Goal, Arsenal, AC Milan and Monaco are all competing to sign Bertrand after contract talks broke down with Southampton.
It is added that Arsenal would like to use the defender as back-up to Kieran Tierney.
