As training has resumed and the friendly matches season begins in Europe, many French and foreign clubs are unveiling their jerseys for the 2021-2022 campaign. AS Saint-Étienne is one of them and sees things big by revealing its three new tunics designed by Le Coq Sportif.
Equipped by the French brand since the start of the 2015-2016 season after having been linked to adidas for many years, ASSE has always benefited from jerseys respecting its traditional colors at home while its other tunics generally vary between white and black. Le Coq Sportif knows the Saint-Etienne brand well, having been the official partner in the 1970s and 1980s. The brand from Romilly-sur-Seine was in part inspired by this period to design these new tunics which will be worn by Adil Aouchiche and his partners.
This year, the brand is inspired by the Greens of the 80s with whom Michel Platini has had great success in a short time. While on June 2, the club celebrated the 40th anniversary of its tenth title of French Champion, Le Coq Sportif added white lines on a green background on the left flank in reference to the KB Jardin jersey worn to Geoffroy-Guichard from 1981 to 1984. Inside the jersey, we find the words “For the Love of the Cauldron: happy 90 years! »Paying tribute to the venue which has hosted AS Saint-Étienne since its creation and which will celebrate its 90th anniversary on September 13th.
The secondary tunic carries the message of youth and trend according to the club’s press release. Both the club and the brand wish to dedicate their great history to the young people of the club, to encourage them in turn to enter into the rich history of the Greens. As in the last three seasons, it is a refreshing white tunic that the Saint-Etienne residents will wear in hostile soil. There is obviously a touch of green on the sponsor jersey, collar and logos but also on the left side with green lines again referring to the KB Jardin jersey sported in the early 1980s.
On the third tunic dyed black, the city of Saint-Étienne and its mining area are in the spotlight. The Loire coal basin was notably the number one coal mining site in France during the first Industrial Revolution in the years 1820-1830, so it is a great symbol of the city. This social emblem founded a spirit, that of work and toil. Rich in history, this tunic also puts the coat of arms of the city forward to the right of the chest in a golden color that also covers the logos of the club and the brand.
