The Arsenal takeover

Arsenal fans will be excited to learn news of any possible takeover regarding the club.

On the Friday after the collapse of the Super League, thousands of Gunners supporters gathered outside the Emirates to protest against the ownership.

LONDON, ENGLAND – APRIL 23: Arsenal fans chant and hold placards during a protest against the club’s owner Stan Kroenke ahead of the Premier League match between Arsenal and Everton, outside Emirates Stadium on April 23, 2021 in London, England. The protest, which takes place amid growing discontent over the running Arsenal FC, was sparked by the club’s recent involvement in the European Super League. There was uproar from football fans across the country earlier this week when six major Premier League football clubs, including Arsenal, announced that they were to join the controversial “closed-shop” tournament. Each club has subsequently withdrawn from the competition. (Photo by Leon Neal/Getty Images)

Not only was this directed at Kroenke Sports Entertainment because of their involvement in the Super League proposals but due to the club’s gradual decline over the last decade-plus and silence from Stan Kroenke himself.

This led to Spotify co-founder Daniel Ek committing to putting a bid in for the club. Even 3 club legends were supposedly in support of Ek’s bid.

I have it on good authority that Thierry Henry, Dennis Bergkamp and Patrick Vieira have joined Daniel Ek in his bid to buy Arsenal FC and I am told it is very real. #afc Story: https://t.co/jKhk28kZ9k

Arsenal up for sale?

The interest and public announcements from Ek led to a statement from KSE denying any offers had been received and reiterated their intention not to sell.

“In recent days we have noted media speculation regarding a potential takeover bid for Arsenal Football Club,” said Stan and Josh Kroenke in a joint statement.

“We remain 100 per cent committed to Arsenal and are not selling any stake in the club. We have not received any offer and we will not entertain any offer.

“Our ambition for Arsenal remains to compete to win the biggest trophies in the game and our focus remains on improving our competitiveness on the pitch to achieve this.”

Despite this, reports have today suggested that Arsenal has been up for sale for as long as 2 years. This isn’t hugely surprising considering the statement. Publicly welcoming offers would drive down the price.

A price tag of £1.7bn had been touted but has since seen suggestions that figure has risen to £2bn in spite of the club’s decline.

Whether Ek has the funds to test the resolve is yet to be seen even though he claims he has acquired the funds to make an offer.

Spotify co-founder and CEO Daniel Ek says he has ‘secured the funds’ to takeover Arsenal and will now present a ‘very compelling offer’ to owners Stan Kroenke and Josh Kroenke to buy the club. pic.twitter.com/JLWskeOHU1
